The restaurant and bar portion of the much anticipated “Eat, Sleep, Whiskey” concept that is Longman & Eagle at 2657 N. Kedzie Avenue is now open evenings for your dining and drinking pleasure.
Striving for “rarefied” food in an “unpretentious” atmosphere, the assortment of dining chairs evokes the feel I first imagined when I learned of the restaurant, bar and inn concept, a “George Washington slept here” kind of place for modern times, though the inn portion is not quite ready for travelers. Draftsman stools stand at the renovated bar, in keeping with the typesetting motif (see Under construction: Longman & Eagle). And be sure to look up in the back room where construction scraps are pieced together to create an interesting ceiling mosaic.
Menu choices include Wild Boar Sloppy Joe with pickled jalapeño, Fried Ipswich Clam Bellies with celery root rémoulade, and Slow Roasted Cauliflower with beluga lentils. A variety of inexpensive wines and, being fans of the bourbon, a fine selection of Kentucky whiskeys are available for pairing with your meal.
A welcome addition to the neighborhood.
