Unless you’ve been on an extended vacation, or have had your head buried in the sand, you’ve heard that the CTA is again scheduled to cut service on various transit routes beginning Sunday, February 7. Those changes affect the Blue Line “el,” the 56 Milwaukee bus, the 76 Diversey bus, and the 82 Kimball bus, all of which serve the area that is the current focus of this blog.
56 Milwaukee bus reduced hours
Perhaps not surprisingly, because it largely duplicates the Blue Line, the 56 Milwaukee bus is bearing the brunt of the changes in this area with both reduced hours of service and less frequent service.
Southbound buses will start out from the Jefferson Park station about an hour later in the morning at 4:30 a.m. with the first bus reaching the Logan Square station at 4:46 a.m. The last southbound bus of the evening will depart almost three and half hours earlier, departing the Logan Square station at 9:50 p.m.
Northbound buses also head out from Madison and Wabash about an hour later at 5:26 a.m. (5:21 a.m. Saturday, Sunday and holidays), reaching the Logan Square station at 5:54 a.m. (5:48 a.m. Saturday, Sunday and holidays), with the last bus home leaving downtown three and half hours earlier, reaching Logan Square at 11:03 p.m. (11:01 p.m. Saturday, Sunday and holidays).
Blue Line, 56 Milwaukee, 76 Diversey, 82 Kimball frequency changes
Service frequency will be reduced, though negligibly, for example, from every 4 to 12 minutes to every 5 to 13 minutes weekdays on the 56 Milwaukee and from every 3 to 30 minutes to every 6 to 30 minutes on the Blue Line.
